The Dental Council of India (DCI) has recently issued updated guidelines regarding the commencement of the BDS Internship Programme and Provisional Registration, aiming to streamline the academic calendar and bring it back on track post-pandemic.

🔍 Background

Over the past few years, following the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, DCI had been receiving multiple requests from NEET MDS aspirants for extensions in internship completion dates. However, with Covid-19 no longer classified as a global health emergency, the DCI is now realigning the academic calendar with its original structure as per the DCI Regulations, 2006.

📅 Internship Commencement Guidelines

As per the new directives:

Internship must commence immediately after the BDS Final Year Examinations.
Students who fail the final year BDS exam must discontinue their internship immediately. Any internship done during this period will not be considered valid for future academic or registration purposes.

📝 Provisional Registration Requirement

It is now mandatory for all students who pass their BDS final year exams to:

Submit their Provisional Registration Certificate (issued by the respective State Dental Council) to their college within one month of the result declaration.
Failure to submit the certificate in time will place the responsibility on the college, hence strict compliance is required.

To ensure compliance with the latest DCI directives:

Be prepared to start your internship immediately after your final exams.
In case of failure in final exams, discontinue any ongoing internship and wait until successful re-examination.
